Gaza’s journalists have received the highest accolade from the UN agency responsible for promoting peace and security. Serbia: Journalists attacked while covering protests in Belgrade

On 24 December, several journalists and media workers were targets of insults and physical violence while reporting on protests in Belgrade that objected to alleged irregularities during general elections on 17 December. The International and the European Federations of Journalists (IFJ-EFJ) condemn the violent acts and urge the competent authorities to launch an immediate investigation.

Indonesia: ITE Law revision retains threat to freedom of expression

Indonesian authorities passed the second amendment to the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) on December 5, failing to address freedom of expression concerns raised by press groups and legal experts. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) joins its affiliate the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Indonesia in urging the Indonesian government to urgently revise the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law).

Palestine: ICC chief prosecutor meets Palestinian journalists' leaders in the West Bank

Karim Khan, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), met with Nasser Abu Baker, president of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) in Ramallah on 2 December 2023. Abu Baker, who is also vice president of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), briefed Khan about the situation for journalists and media workers in Gaza and the West Bank, and reminded him of the two complaints to the ICC lodged by the IFJ and PJS in April 2022 and in September 2022.
