While the minimum fare in passenger trains is just Rs 10, it is Rs 30 in express trains. The Bengaluru division alone operates 108 services, with 20 pairs (40 services) being express trains including on the airport route.
South Western Railway (SWR) has proposed the development of a 287-km-long circular rail network on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The project aims to enhance local train services, alleviate congestion on existing rail networks, and complement the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) and Namma Metro. The proposed network will connect important locations like Devanahalli and Heelalige, reducing load on long-distance trains and benefiting daily commuters from satellite towns.
