A Minnesota woman was sentenced to serve over two decades in prison for abandoning her newborn child on the banks of the Mississippi River in 2003.

A woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for abandoning her newborn son to die on a Minnesota beach during the final days of fall.

The bodies of the infants were found in the Mississippi River in 1999 and 2003.

Jennifer Lynn Matter, 50, could be sentenced to 27 years in prison under a plea agreement.

Minnesota woman Jennifer Matter, 50, admitted in a guilty plea Wednesday that she left her newborn baby boy to die on the banks of the Mississippi River back in in 2003.

Jennifer Matter, 50, was arrested on May 10, 2022, and pleaded guilty on Wednesday for the death of her baby boy in 2003. She faces 27 years in prison if convicted.

Bail has been set for a Red Wing woman charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

"After giving birth to [the baby], I told no one of the child’s existence or that he was located on an isolated beach," Jennifer Matter said in the plea agreement.

The bodies of the infants were found in the Mississippi River in 1999 and 2003.
