The State Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps in Maharashtra has registered 1,999,036 documents and earned revenue of ₹33,072 crore, meeting 73.49% of the target revenue for the financial year. The state government may continue with the 1% Metro cess—an additional stamp duty levied while registering properties in metro cities. Several citizens and realtors have requested the government to withdraw the cess to bring down stamp duty.

Earlier in June, the UP cabinet approved the cess after the cash-strapped Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) approached the government, seeking relief from a court ruling directing it to refund Rs 50 crore of the metro and Hindon elevated road cess collected from developers during map approval.

The registration of properties contributed over Rs 1,084 crore to the state revenues.
