Hot Springs tenants filed complaints about poor living conditions, including being forced to pay for their air conditioning units. HUD is now stepping in to assist.

HOT SPRINGS -- City Manager Bill Burrough said the committee he formed to recommend habitability standards for rental dwellings plans to hold its first meeting this month.

An agreement reached Thursday in the lawsuit Greenbriar Apartment tenants filed last week prohibits ownership from removing air conditioning from any of the federally subsidized complexs 64 units, an attorney for the plaintiffs said.

HOT SPRINGS -- A judge issued a temporary order Tuesday that prohibits ownership of Greenbriar Apartments from removing window-mounted air conditioners from the federally subsidized complex.

The Hot Springs Board of Directors will consider setting maximum air temperature standards for tenant-occupied dwelling units next week.
