All those stores are closed. They contained most of the damage to that one building. It was called big house. There was some damage to a building next door. It was so bad at one time firefighters pulled out because they feared that the roof could collapse. They pulled out and then half hour later the roof in fact did collapse and about an hour after that, the second floor collapsed. And thats why they are so fearful that the building could come down on its own. They have a no go zone around the building right now between 22nd and 23rd. Allen . Live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. This huge fire in San Franciscos Mission district has been burning for hours. It is contained tonight, but the danger is not over. The five alarm fire teared through 22 and 23 street. That is where joe vasquez is and the building could collapse at any minute now. Reporter liz, thats a major concern tonight and the reason firefighters are being cautious but aggress i. They are still pouring water on some burning embers some ten hours after the fire began. Looked like a volcano. Red orange flames on the top of the brick building. Reporter the flames shot more than 50 feet into the air. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen all the way from the east bay.
