In 2021, over 3,500 people were killed in distracted driving crashes nationwide, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

There were 254 traffic deaths, according to preliminary data from the Nebraska Department of Transportation. That's 9.5% higher than the 2017-22 average.

We've already eclipsed the 10 year average, and are on pace to surpass the 250 mark — something not seen since 2007.

Many crews have been preparing for the snow since October and they say they're ready for whatever Mother Nature may bring this weekend.
