SEQUIM — A monument was placed in front of a public school on Carlsborg Road in 1924 with a bronze plaque and a message.

“It’s long overdue, but welcome home.”

Community members offered their time and effort to honor veterans and their sacrifices at several cemeteries across the Olympic Peninsula on National Wreaths Across America Day — including about 75 men, women and children at Sequim View Cemetery — on Dec. 16.

Fallen veterans to be honored at local gravesites

The wreaths, and the remembrance of sacrifices they seek to honor, are once again spreading across the North Olympic Peninsula and across the nation this coming weekend.
