Army Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael Uhrin came home to Metuchen Friday after nearly 80 years.

After 80 years, the missing remains of Michael Uhrin was finally recovered, leading to an emotional hero's celebration in Metuchen on Memorial Day.

The Metuchen parade ended with a ceremony commemorating the sacrifice of a long-lost resident, Sgt. Michael Uhrin.

The Memorial Day parade in Metuchen, N.J., was dedicated to Sgt. Michael Uhrin, whose remains were recently identified 79 years after his death in a World War II battle.

Staff Sgt. Michael Uhrin, a 21-year-old airman from Metuchen whose remains were identified nearly 80 years after his death, will finally be laid to rest in his hometown this Memorial Day.

Crew members of the USS Oklahoma and bombers shot down in Europe were among 13 service members recently accounted for by the Defense Department agency tasked with recovering U.S. troops listed as missing in action or prisoners of war. 

Sgt. Michael Uhrin, a 21-year-old from Metuchen, N.J., was declared missing in October 1943 after his plane was shot down by enemy fighters in Germany during World War II.
