East Asian students may be less likely to speak up and share their opinions, a new research paper says, contributing to lower grades in M.B.A. and law-school classes.

Students of East Asian descent perform more poorly than expected in business schools and law schools, new research finds. The work, co-authored by MIT Sloan Assistant Professor Jackson Lu, suggests this could be due to a culturally influenced lack of verbal assertiveness in the classroom.
