Budget 2023 made the new income tax regime the default regime. Since this regime doesn’t give Section 80C benefits, ELSS, or tax-saving mutual funds, have lost their tax-benefit edge. Aside from taxpayers who would still opt for the old tax regime, it remains to be seen if ELSS funds can sell themselves purely on performance.

Snapping a winning streak of the last six sessions ' the BSE Sensex tanked 434.31 pts to settle at 72,623.09 as selling was seen in Utilities, Oil and Gas stocks.

Extending rally for the sixth straight session on Tuesday the Sensex breached 73K level to finish at 73,057.40 surging 349.24 pts on the strength of Bankex, Realty and Power stocks despite weak global cues.

The equity market remained strong for the fifth consecutive session on Monday as the BSE Sensex closed a new high at 72,708.16' advancing 281.52 pts on positive global cues.

The BSE Sensex remained firm for the fourth consecutive session on Friday as it gained 319.34 pts at 72,369.72 in opening session as almost all sbuying was seen across the board.

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday gained further by 267.64 pts at 71,822.83 as buying was witnessed in Oil and Gas, Energy, Metal and Utilities stocks.  

On Monday, Niftys Midcap 100 index fell 2.5% - its biggest single-day fall since January 23, and the Small Cap 100 index slumped 4% - its biggest fall in a day since September 12 last year. The Nifty Microcap 250 declined 3.9%. The Sensex and Nifty shed 0.7-0.8% each Monday. On Friday, the small-cap and mid-cap indices fell between 2% and 3%.
