ALPENA MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena officials are seeing a “significant increase” in the number of patients being admitted for COVID-19. Hospital President Chuck Sherwin said on Monday of the 70 patients admitted in the hospital, 26 were admitted because of COVID-19. Sherwin said the hospital at the beginning of December saw more patients admitted because of COVID-19. However, he said the current influx of patients comes close to that time. “If the numbers continue to go up the way that they have over the last two weeks, we’ll probably exceed that level because I think we were at a high of 28 before,” Sherwin said.

Dose of hope: COVID vaccine arrives Wednesday

Dose of hope: COVID vaccine arrives Wednesday Dry run vaccinations to take place Wednesday, employee clinics Thursday Dec. 15, 2020 FacebookTwitterEmail The first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine will be arriving in Midland on Wednesday. Millie Jezior, MidMichigan Health public relations manager, said the hospital will be receiving the vaccine by Wednesday morning. While we anticipated to receive 975 doses, we were pleasantly surprised to learn late (Thursday) from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that we are now receiving 2,925 doses, Jezior said. MidMichigan Health will be performing dry runs Wednesday afternoon in Midland and Alpena. During that time, those on the vaccination team will receive the vaccine, Jezior said. That includes employees from quality, infection prevention, employee health and pharmacy, as well as a few physicians. This accounts for about 20 people in Midland and 10 in Alpena.
