Veteran jockey Kent Desormeaux and his mount, veteran 5-year-old gelding Stilleto Boy, were the perfect pair when they entered the gate on Saturday in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap.

With his first victory in Santa Anita’s signature race for older horses coming 31 years ago, 53-year-old Kent Desormeaux added a third Santa Anita Handicap (G1) win to his Hall of Fame resume on Saturday at the Arcadia, Calif. track as he coaxed 5-year-old gelding Stilleto Boy to a neck triumph over Eastern invader Proxy.

Stilleto Boy won the Santa Anita Handicap for his first Grade 1 win and biggest victory for veteran trainer Ed Moger Jr.

The venerable Shamrock Farm in Woodbine, Md., is now standing Coltimus Prime.

Since the first Pacific Classic was contested at Del Mar in 1991, there have been 10 winning favorites in the 31 runnings.
