Canadian artist David Blackwood, known for his haunting and powerful etchings of life in outport Newfoundland, died Saturday in Port Hope, Ont., at the age of 80.

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Canadian artist David Blackwood, known for his haunting and powerful etchings of life in outport Newfoundland, died Saturday in Port Hope, Ont., at the age of 80.

Huebert's short collection Chemical Valley and Butler Hallett's novel Constant Nobody among the winners of the 2022 Atlantic Book Awards, a coalition of 13 different book prizes. 

The art world is mourning the loss of one of Canada's greatest painters, who dedicated his career to redefining Newfoundland and Labrador landscapes and experiences, and also created the province's flag.

It's one of the largest and most significant donations The Rooms has ever received: nearly 400 prints by dozens of Inuit artists. For 30 years, artist and master printmaker William Ritchie kept a copy of every print he worked on at the historic Kinngait Studios. Now he's gifting the whole collection to The Rooms.
