The City Council passed another resolution to make the entertainment district safer. The resolution tasks the interim city manager to look into installing HALO cameras around the area and working with bars to prevent over-serving.

Another body was found in Lady Bird Lake last weekend, reigniting pleas for better safety measures along Austin trails, especially off Rainey Street.

Jonathan Honey is the second person whose body was found in Lady Bird Lake in the past two months, and one of several cases like this in recent years.

Temporary solar-powered lights and fences were installed along the trail near Rainey Street ahead of South by Southwest in an effort to improve safety.

One by one, family and friends of those who died or were severely injured near the Lady Bird Lake Trail by Rainey Street spoke directly to members of the Austin City Council to beg for change.

The body of 30-year-old Jason John was found in Lady Bird Lake recently after he had disappeared after a night out on Rainey Street. But this isn't the first time this has happened to a young man in the Austin's popular nightlife district.
