New members of the Massachusetts Asian American and Pacific Islander Commission took their oaths of office at a small State House gathering Monday afternoon, as the commission's executive director Yasmin Padamsee Forbes highlighted last weekend's Lunar New Year celebration and hoped to "embrace the spirit of unity and prosperity" represented by the Year of the Dragon.

MIT’s 49th annual Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. featured activist and author Angela Davis as its keynote speaker. The luncheon was the lead event in a week of activities honoring the civil rights leader.
