Hi everyone. My dad was a model engineer subscriber, enthusiast and retired design engineer. Sadly he past away in January this year. He eft all of his possessions to my mum. Shes asked me to help clear out his workshop but were really worried about under-valuing some his stuff and dont want people just to try and buy cheap to sell on and profit from the situation. Happy for it to go for really reasonable prices, but want the equipment to go to good homes and people who will make good use of it...

Posted by Avon on 27/02/2021 17:18:44: Well thats given me something to think about. Other materials are possible, but it is the heavier material choice that came up in discussion. The original instructions merely suggest a zinc based alloy, but the foundry have little call for such and so proposed the bronze. Ill let you know how I get on. Many thanks. Depends on what else they have available. Cast iron or brass would be fine too and both easier to machine. You are lucky these days to find a f...

Posted by Oldiron on 26/01/2021 16:33:18: Would it be a major job to make your own nut. I presume you have the spindle so will have thread size & cone angle. Most other dimensions can be a compromise. It might be good to look at the item about which he is talking - see Jasons link. It spins at 12,000 rpm. For an item engineered to work in proper balance at that high speed, the ┬г60 quoted above is a bargain. I did look. But that ┬г60 is for a collett & nut. The OP did just ask for a nut so the ...
