High winds, very dry air and dry fuels will make for extreme fire danger Thursday. Fires will have the potential to spread very quickly.

With the sun returning late this morning, we're expecting higher winds to mix down with northerly gusts around 35-45 mph.

Light rain tapers off, with snow continuing to dump on central Nebraska. Cold air will cut in later by Monday night into early Tuesday.

Thunderstorms possible again Sunday evening, then winter is set to take over. High winds and heavy snow will lead to blizzard conditions in Nebraska Monday.

Southerly winds will transport warmer air into the area for the end of the work week. Highs will be approaching about 60° today, slightly warmer Friday.

Following a cloudy end to the weekend, a winter storm arrives late Sunday and continues through early Tuesday. A Winter Weather Warning is now in place for much of eastern and central Nebraska. Snow totals have adjusted to now 4-8+ inches. Stay with the channel 8 Storm Alert Team as we continue to provide updates on the approaching winter weather.

We are expecting mixed precipitation to continue on and off for a few of the early morning hours before the transition over to snow. Once we do see that transition, heavy snow will pick up especially in areas south of I-80 first.

While daytime Sunday will be partly cloudy, active weather is on the way Sunday night. A Winter Storm Watch is in place for much of eastern and central Nebraska through 6:00am Tuesday.

There is a small chance for light snow on Saturday, with better chances late Sunday into Tuesday. A Winter Weather Watch is in place for much of eastern Nebraska from Sunday evening until Tuesday morning.

Following a rainy Christmas Eve in eastern Nebraska, the rain will transition into snow overnight. Snow will continue throughout Christmas Day. North and central Nebraska are in a Blizzard Warning through 6:00am Wednesday, where strong winds and heavier snow are expected.
