A study said the monkeypox virus has mutated faster than expected. The study which appeared in Nature Medicine found that there was an average of 50 mutations in samples detected in samples this year. The researchers found 50 genetic variations in viruses which was six to 12 times higher than the studies of other orthopoxviruses, the family of monkeypox. The researchers said the genetic variations indicated "accelerated evolution". 

Monkeypox virus first causes flu-like symptoms before progressing to a rash on the face and body and is commonly found in parts of central and west Africa. But this year, 1,880 infections have been reported in more than 30 countries where monkeypox isnt typically found.

Monkeypox infection may lead to adverse outcomes for foetus, newborns and mother, as per the latest report by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The World Health Organization says it has removed the distinction between endemic and non-endemic countries in its data on monkeypox to better unify the response to the virus.

The number of monkeypox cases in Britain exceeded 500 cases on Wednesday, according to the latest official figures.

So far 99% of infections in UK are in men and most cases are reported in London. Scientists warn that any person can become vulnerable to the disease.

US health experts said Friday that cases of monkeypox that are being detected at the moment do not necessarily display the usual symptoms, making the disease more difficult to diagnose.
