Consumers can expect a price decrease of 12.5% to 15% for canola oil prices to reach between, R74.99 to R79.99, and a decrease of between 25% to 30% for sunflower oil to reach R84.99 to R79.99.

The Competition Commission is monitoring the spike in sunflower and other edible oil prices and will take action if retail prices are not justified by increasing costs.

The war has wreaked havoc on the supply of sunflower oil to the point that some retailers, such as Woolworths and Pick n Pay are now imposing customer limits on the product to prevent panic buying.

Shoppers are not allowed to purchase two or more two-litre bottles of sunflower oil at some retail stores due to a shortage in supply.

Woolworths has a limit of one per customer and Pick n Pay has a four per order limit.

Expect to pay up to R120 for a mere two litres of cooking oil, following an imminent price increase due to a shortage of oilseed products.

In 30 days, consumers will start to feel the pressure, with a 2 litre bottle of oil expected to reach between R100 and R120.
