Lewis Alston, 72, died on Nov. 18, 2023, after a brief illness. The Marine veteran served with the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard.

Jack Edge, who died late last month, was supposed to be the guest of honor at the Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony in Ocala.

Jack Edge served on a submarine tender and was in sick bay on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He retired to Marion County.

The late Steve Johnston helped get the memorial started with his research. Now its a key part of the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park.

Julius was married to Vernita (Willoughby) Julius for 62 years and the couple have two adult children, Francine Julius-Edwards and Russell Julius; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  Julius-Edwards said the family took COVID-19 precautions very seriously and she took all CDC-suggested guidelines to help protect her parents.
