Leister Foundationi rahastatud rahvusvaheline uurimisrühm võttis ette Gröönimaa ranniku lähedal juba 1978. aastal avastatud Oodaq-saare põhjalikuma uurimise. Kui teadlased jõudsid kopteril kohale, tabas neid üllatus: nad olid maandunud sihtmärgist 800 meetri kaugusel põhja pool oleval tillukesel saarel, mida keegi polnud varem märganud.
