what president obama calls a mass shooting here outside the u.s. navy yard in southeast washington d.c. just moments ago, the chief of the dc police and mayor gray, the mayor of the city updated us on the very latest. the very latest, at least 12, at least 12 people confirmed dead in terms of injured we were told that at least 10 people are injured, at least 10 people. among them, one d. c. area police officer injured in direct gunfire. the chief told us that other police police officers were also injured but not directly by gunfire. in terms of people being transported to local area hospitals we have heard a number of people have been transported to local hospitals. we have been hearing from local police officials. as for president obama, he has again call this a mass shooting, not very long ago he talked about a number of service members and civilians who served in the navy yard, knowing full well that violence can occur at any time whether serving abroad. but they don t
wounded, some critically. there were report of a possible second gunman, but police are now confident that is not the case. the gunman had a valid pass to get into the navy yard. kpix 5 linda has more on the suspect tonight. dc police and fbi have identified the gunman as a former decorated petty officer. he s aaron alexis of 34-year-old military reservist whose military record included misconduct charges. he left the navy in january, 2011, before today s rampage, alexis was involved in two minor shooting incidents. aaron alexis was arrested in seattle in 2004 for shooting out another man s tires, then again in texas in 2010 for tiring a weapon into the ceiling of his apartment, but alexis was not prosecuted in either case. today s blood bath surprises this former roommate who met him at a buddhist temple. he might be a little angry sometimes, you know, but uong i don t believe he going to kill myself if he didlieve i it. alexis was a full-time reservist from mae,
