Despite “bathtub killer” Yibanathi Ndema’s life sentence for the murder of his wife, Noluvuyo Nonkwelo-Ndema, her father is still angry with the police for the way they handled the case.Nonkwelo-Ndema, 34, vanished from her marital home in Vulindlela village in Zingqayi between Butterworth and Dutywa on July 1 2019, and two days later her husband reported her missing.

MacGyver Yibanathi Ndema, who made national headlines for killing his wife Noluvuyo Nonkwelo-Ndema and cementing her body under their bathtub in June 2019, has apologised to his in-laws and children for the nature of her death, but still denies being her killer.

An Eastern Cape man standing trial for allegedly murdering his wife has had new charges of assault added against him. Yibanathi McGyver Ndema is on trial at the Mthatha high court, sitting in Butterworth. On Wednesday, NPA senior prosecutor advocate Sibusiso Nolutshungu added three charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Police DNA tests have confirmed the body of a woman who was found buried under the bath of a home at Zingqayi near Butterworth two months ago, is that of Noluvuyo Nonkwelo-Ndema who disappeared two years ago.
