In its submission before the court, the EOW has said that it found its investigation lacking on several grounds such as not recording statements of important stakeholders in the sugar factories and officers part of the enquiry.

In August 2019, an FIR was lodged on allegations that some cooperative sugar factories were fraudulently sold at throwaway prices by the then officials and directors of MSCB.

Few hours after the ED filed a case against him and others in the MSCB scam case, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said he would have been surprised had there not been such an action against him given the huge response he received during his poll campaign in Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra government opposed the petition filed by an activist in the Bombay High Court against the clean chit given to Ajit Pawar and other accused in the alleged MSCB scam, reports Free Press Journal. The petitioner sought the matter to be transferred to the CBI. The court would hear the petition on March 22. Sources say the closure report filed by the EOW has multiple co-operators saying the coalition govt is going out of the way to shield Ajit Pawar.
