Locals are so frustrated by the dangerous state of their crumbling Victorian highway that they are threatening to close it off and are leaving pointed safety signs warning of Danholes.

A cold front brings icy weather, snow and hail to large swathes of the country with some places clocking record cold temperatures for May. The BOM is warning the cold snap isn't over yet. 

Sydney woke up to near-freezing temperatures on Sunday as south-east Australia shivered through an early cold snap, bringing snow falls one month out from the start of the ski season.
