Just a decade ago, Fazli, Himsagar, Langra and Gopalbhog mangoes were the most popular varieties of the fruit among consumers in Bangladesh.

Traders and customers from across the country are flocking to the mango markets of Chapainawabganj -- known as the mango capital of Bangladesh.

Mango flowers have been spreading a sweet scent in every corner of Chapainawabganj, and the trees are covered with yellowish blossoms as far as the eye can see.

Rural basket makers in Chapainawabganj are spending busy hours as the baskets are now in high demand for packaging mangoes of the district, one of the largest producers of quality mangoes in the country.

Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi yesterday secured their names as producing regions of Fazli mango meaning that the northern districts will be able to use its Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which will enable growers to brand the popular mango variety better at home and abroad.
