Craig Little has secured a fourth term as mayor of Wairoa with a resounding victory, clocking up twice as many votes as the second place candidate.

Mayoral candidates in Gisborne and Wairoa have shown overwhelming support for Māori wards, but there are differences in opinion on other key election topics.

The local government elections in Hawke's Bay are in two different worlds - with some set to be a tough race and others a foregone conclusion.

"If they were actually concerned with the health of the people, why would you risk bringing people from Auckland to our small community?" asks resident Puti Moa.
