At least 15 people, including children, have been killed in an air strike on a village in northwestern Myanmar according to a report.

A convoy including diplomats representing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on a mission to provide humanitarian assistance to displaced people in strife-torn Myanmar has been ambushed, state media and a member of an ethnic minority militia said on Monday.

Myanmar's military said it carried out a deadly attack on a village gathering organised by its insurgent opponents this week and if civilians were also killed it was because they were being forced to help the "terrorists".

Champhai district magistrate said that while shrapnel was recovered, nothing suggests that an airstrike hit Indian territory.

Though India has not reacted to it yet, local news reports quoting district officials said there were no casualties on the Indian side.

A bomb blast in a busy neighbourhood of Myanmar's commercial hub Yangon killed one person and injured nine others on Tuesday, police and junta authorities said.

An aid group said it was suspending operations in Myanmar's strife-torn Kayah state after two staff members went missing in an attack that left at least 30 people dead.

"The people in the village only have crossbows and there are a lot of casualties on the people's side," a resident told Reuters.
