Oregon s seven electors cast their ballots Monday for Joe Biden.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) Meeting on the Senate floor in the Oregon Capitol, Oregon’s electors on Monday gave their seven votes to Joe Biden.
Oregon Secretary of State Bev Clarno, a Republican from Redmond, said before the vote that it came amid an “incredibly difficult” year, citing the coronavirus pandemic, catastrophic wildfires and racial injustice.
“All of this on top of the 2020 general election that was rife with misinformation, leading to mistrust in our democracy and division among our citizens,” Clarno said from the podium. She did not name Trump, who critics say has undermined public faith in America’s democracy by claiming, without any basis, that the election was rigged.

The Electoral College is the system by which the U.S. elects the president.
There are 538 electors total, and a candidate must receive a majority or 270 votes to win the presidency. Parties choose their electors, which are typically elected officials or party loyalists.
In states where Trump got more votes, the Republican slate of electors cast votes, and in states where Biden got more votes, the Democratic slate will cast their votes.
Each state has the same number of electors as its congressional delegation one for each senator and congressperson. Oregon has seven electors, while Washington has twelve.
Forty-eight states, including Oregon and Washington, use a “winner-take-all system” where the candidates who received the most votes in the state receive all the state’s electoral votes.
Oregon officially casts electoral votes for Biden and Harris
Little suspense at the Capitol as seven electors confirm state victory for the Democratic ticket.
Oregon took its part Monday, Dec. 14, in the every-four-year ritual of casting the state s electoral votes for president and vice president.
Like most states, there were no surprises as the seven people chosen as electors all state Democratic Party officials voted for Democrat Joe Biden as president and Democrat Kamala Harris as vice president. The 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires separate votes for the offices.
They did so at a meeting that lasted less than 30 minutes in the Senate chamber at the Capitol in Salem.
