Sanskrit may be the least spoken of the scheduled languages in India, but it has been mighty resilient — even perhaps making a small comeback — in recent years. According to 2011 Census data, close to 25,000 people had Sanskrit as their mother tongue, and while that may not seem like much in a population of over 130 crore, it marks a growth of more than 10,000 speakers over a decade.
