If you have never tried winter trout fishing on the Niagara River, you owe it to yourself to give it a go. Be sure to dress warmly.

With high and dirty water the past week, anglers have been finding steelhead in deeper holes using jigs, beads, and stickbaits.

Although fishable ice has yet to take hold, improving water conditions and plentiful bait have steelhead, lake trout, and walleye on the feed.

Salmon have started moving into the shallow water; staging for the fall run, largemouth bass are grabbing top water baits and walleye are hitting paddletails in the dark.

The Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey is history, and there is less than a week left in the LOC Derby, ending on Labor Day. There are changes to the Southtowns Walleye

Action has been good for bass and walleye are being caught regularly during early morning and evening hours.

Smallmouth bass and walleye are both active in the lower Niagara River, and fishing has been great out on Lake Ontario for salmon and trout.

The Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Association held its in-club tournaments last weekend, and they were again successful ventures.
