Housing starts declined slightly in November, but economists are more troubled by the lack of building permits issued to homebuilders.

Sales of existing homes fell 5.9 percent to a seasonally adjusted rate of 4.43 million — 28.4 percent lower than in October 2021.

As the market cooled in September, the pace of housing starts fell. But permit issuance was up and a record number of units are under construction.
