City Council members will consider whether to declare the site of a northwest North Platte townhome development “substandard and blighted” and a block near the downtown Federal Building “extremely blighted.”

One is dead after a pickup truck crashed into the side of a semi-truck near North Platte.

City Council members Tuesday granted both TIF and extremely blighted status to North Plattes remaining undeveloped land between Philip Avenue, Newberry Access, the South Platte River and U.S. Highway 83.

Two people were killed and four injured in a three-vehicle crash east of North Platte, while a North Platte man died later in a separate one-vehicle wreck near Gothenburg.

Years of study, design, possible legal disputes and especially government red tape likely would face of a roughly 30-mile-long, four-lane highway loop to serve new and future Lincoln County industries.

Council members also finally adopted a sharp increase in “games of skill” occupation taxes and agreed to seek bids to upgrade Cody Park’s tennis courts for both tennis and pickleball.

The council tied 4-4 on granting $1.042 million in tax increment financing toward an $8.5 million relocation of Murphy Tractor & Equipment to U.S. Highway 83 and Walker Road.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the City Hall council chamber and will be broadcast on the city’s YouTube channel and government access TV channel 180 on Spectrum.

Halligan will be coated from Platte Oasis Parkway to Newberry Access Road.

For its scope, speed and significance, Wednesday’s North Platte City Council meeting yielded the city’s most aggressive moves on housing in years.
