The search for a new leader at Newfields comes three months after former President and CEO Colette Burnette announced her unexpected departure.

Seven Newfields board members will launch the recruiting process in conjunction with Chicago-based search firm Koya Partners.

Membership on the board of trustees, which decreased from 30 to 24, is currently at 26 after additions of Robert Scheele and Leon Jackson.

Two more Board of Trustees members at Newfields have stepped down. The museum confirmed the departures on its governing board following a meeting this week.

The resignations follow the November departure of the president and chief executive officer, and four members of the Board of Trustees.

Newfields released a statement Tuesday after the departure of former CEO Colette Pierce Burnette, almost two weeks after the organization announced her exit without providing more specific details about what led to the leadership change.

A protest outside Newfields Sunday afternoon swelled calls for transparency and criticism from the community, after the art museum announced earlier this month that its President and CEO, Dr. Colette Burnette, “will depart.”

About 40 demonstrators gathered on the opening night of the popular “Winterlights” attraction at Newfields.

Adrienne Sims, IU Health’s chief human resources officer since 2022, resigned from the Newfields board, The Indianapolis Recorder reported.
