A man in full Grinch gear was outside his SUV when Exeter Police arrived at the crash scene late in the afternoon on Christmas Day.

Police said a man dressed in a full Grinch costume crashed outside an Exeter, New Hampshire performance venue on Christmas night.

Photos from the venue shared by Exeter police on Wednesday show the Grinch perched on the driver's seat of a damaged SUV and looking at his phone.

Police were surprised when they arrived at the scene to find Jon Williamson, 31, dressed in a full Grinch costume.

Exeter police chief Stephan R. Poulin said the driver of a 2014 Ford Focus, Sarah Arseneau, 21, of Stratham, went off Newfields Road striking a tree and large boulder.

The vehicle, believed to have been traveling south, had struck a tree and a large boulder, according to police.

Several residents are concerned that closing the roadway will "disenfranchise people" with mobility issues from using the park gifted to the town.
