A change in the ‘structure’ of air freight, triggered by Covid-19 and accelerated by rapid e-commerce growth, means ground handling has become a chokepoint where a shortage of resources requires greater collaboration and data sharing, especially by freight forwarders
In the first week of January, a large-scale Corona testing campaign was conducted at Frankfurt Airport by the three major air cargo handling companies FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services, LUG aircargo handling and Perishable Center Frankfurt (PCF).
A total of around 1,500 employees of the companies, which together handle around 40 percent of the air freight at Frankfurt Airport, was tested. Over several days, the Bensheim-based company Chemlab conducted the tests on site. The aim of the measure is to ensure even better protection of the workforce against infection in the company.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the personnel involved in cargo handling is experiencing a major challenge. Despite the cancellation of the biggest part of passenger flights, Frankfurt Airport recently handled far more cargo than in the previous year. Staff from three major cargo handling companies have been tested to increase safety
Frankfurt Airport began the new year by implementing a large scale COVID-19 testing campaign on site. Three air cargo handling companies operated the strategy: FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services, LUG aircargo handling and Perishable Centre Frankfurt (PCF).
The Perishable Centre Frankfurt (PCF), Europe’s largest cargo hub for perishable goods, is also partaking in the campaign. They believe that staff need to be protected due to the unavoidable exposure to the virus, whilst the new regime also “gives families a bit of security”.
