WILLARD — One run got the St. Elizabeth Hornets back in the game. The second helped them get the victory.

It wasn’t the start the Calvary Lutheran Lions were looking for. The Lions fell into an early 14-point deficit Tuesday night against the St. Elizabeth Hornets and dropped an 80-57 decision at Calvary Lutheran High School. St. Elizabeth scored on its first three possessions on its way to a 16-2 lead with a little less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Two outs, zero problems. The St. Elizabeth Hornets scored nine two-out runs Monday on their way to a 10-0 victory against the Weaubleau Tigers in a Class 1 baseball sectional. “Today was one of our best games all season long, start to finish,” St. Elizabeth coach Caleb Heckemeyer said. “We hit the ball well one through nine.”

The St. Elizabeth Hornets feel like they’re finally getting in a routine. After playing just seven games in the first four weeks of the baseball season, St. Elizabeth capped its busiest week of the season Saturday with a two-game sweep at Haley Field, blanking the Lone Jack Mules 12-0 in five innings and defeating the New Bloomfield Wildcats 8-5.
