New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Chinese smartphone brand OPPO’s plea against a Delhi High Court order

The company has faced similar charges in the European markets, where it has been forced to stop selling its phones for not paying the patent royalty.

“We welcome the Supreme Court decision. Oppo has been unwilling to renew its license on fair and reasonable terms or resolve the matter amicably and has used our technology without making any royalty payments for two years,” said a spokesperson for Nokia Technologies.

In a setback to Chinese smartphone maker Oppo, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to interfere with the Delhi High Court judgment that asked it to deposit 23% of the amount paid under a 2018 licence agreement towards "royalty" for alleged infringement of Nokia Technologies three standard essential patents (SEPs) in cellular technology.
