Recent research into child killings in South Africa has revealed that sometimes parents murder their children to take revenge.

What could possibly lead a mother to kill her children?.

Robson explained that various factors could have played a role – for instance, psychological problems, abuse from a boyfriend or partner or economic/financial strain.

In a first of its kind in South Africa, two academics delved into parents who murder their own to hurt their partner for retribution, termed 'revenge filicides'.

According to the researchers, the motivations for revenge child killings were often linked to complex personal and interpersonal relationship problems.

The family of the Eastern Cape woman who died in mysterious circumstances while facing charges of murder of her four small children, said it has been painful to lose five family members in 11 days. 


“She died without us knowing why she killed her children. We will never know the truth.” These were the words of a devastated Mthundezi Simayile, who buried four of his grandchildren on Friday. Two days later, he received the shocking news that his daughter, suspected child killer Nomboleko Simayile, had died at All Saints Hospital.
