TOPEKA (KSNT) - Drivers in Topeka may run into some roadblocks on Saturday.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that all enslaved people were freed two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

A parade, free food, free swimming, games and other fun help to commemorate the significance June 19th in Topeka this week.

With Juneteenth now celebrated as a federal holiday, Kansans are now turning their attention to pushing for similar recognition at the state level.
