Nkhata Bay Central Constituency fell vacant after court nullification of 2019 results
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is set to hold by-elections for Nkhata Bay Constituency and two wards, Chikwembere in Blantyre North and Lalanje in Nsanje Lalanje constituencies.
The post for Nkhata Bay Central Constituency, that was declared from the 2019 tripartite elections results as having been won Simon Vuwa Kaunda, fell vacant after court nullification while the Councillors for the two wards died.

Constituencies that have been nullified by the courts since 2019 include Mangochi West; Mangochi North East; Phalombe North; Chikwawa East; Nsanje North and Nsanje Central.
He replaces Sam Alfandika, who resigned last month to join United Nations (UN) as Chief Elections Advisor.
In a statement on Wednesday, MEC Chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale said Potani’s appointment was with immediate effect.
“Mr Potani is a Deputy Chief Elections Officer (operations) and has been with the Commission for 21 years. He joined the Commission as Elections Service Officer and has been rising through the ranks,” said Justice Kachale.
Meanwhile, MEC is yet to announce dates for by elections in Nkhata Bay Central Constituency, Chikwembere Ward in Blantyre North and Lalanje Ward in Nsanje Lalanje which fell vacant.

Member of Parliament for Nsanje Lalanje Honourable Gladys Ganda has mourned with communities over the drowning of ten people who wanted to cross the Shire river from their river gardens.
The people who normally cross Shire during winter cropping met their fate after the boat they were travelling in capsized midway of the Shire river.
Speaking on Gaka FM, a community radio station, Ganda expressed shock and requested Government to quickly fix the bridge challenges at Mtayamoyo which is very crucial to the people of the area.
Parley Passes 24 Votes, Opposition Question Some Allocations
When Parliament reconvened Wednesday afternoon, legislators seemed to be on the fast lane passing 24 votes in space of 3 hours.
Vote number 278, Unforeseen Expenditures attracted attention with members seeking to find out from Minister of Finance, Felix Mlusu justification for the increase in funding allocation.
The vote was initially given 2 billion kwacha and had been revised to 25 billion kwacha, representing a 23 billion kwacha increase.
Among those that contributed included, Mangochi South West, legislator who is also Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Shadreck Namalomba who wanted to find out a justification for the increase.
GANDA: OPC Over-spent
Chairperson of Budget and Finance of Parliament Gladys Ganda has described the mid-term review budget as uncertain and hazy and she has since advised the Minister of Finance, Felix Mlusu to be conservative with his projections.
Ganda was speaking on Thursday, March 4,2021 in Parliament when she was responding to the Minister of Finance Mid Term review budget which the Minister premised it on three pillars which are macroeconomic outlook for global, regional and domestic economies; the Fiscal performance in the first half of the 2020/21 Financial year; and the Fiscal outlook to the end of the 2020/21 Financial Year.
