Dashboard for public to monitor cleaning is not up as well

Cost increases after civic body takes on job of cleaning of drains adjacent to both eastern and western highways

Every year the civic authorities appoint contractors to remove silt from major and minor nullahs and rivers in the city to prevent water-logging.

For the last few days BJP MP, MLA and former corporators under the leadership of Shelar are paying visits to various nullahs to review the progress of desilting work

Shelar was speaking after inspecting nullah cleaning works in the eastern suburbs.

BJP city president Ashish Shelar says he inspected many nullahs on Friday and found that work on some of them haven’t yet started.

The BMC has floated 31 tenders to remove silt from the nullahs in Mumbai city and in the eastern & western suburbs, drains along the expressway and the stormwater drains along the city roads and to clean Mithi River.

The corporation has already floated a tender of Rs 87 crore for the period of two years, with a target of silt removal of 2.70 lakh tonnes per year, 70 per cent before monsoon, 20 per cent during rains and 10 per cent later
