A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and subsequently killed by slitting her throat in a slum in Bhubaneswar, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in a village under Raikia police station, about 75 kilometres from Phulbani, the district headquarters.

The woman, who is married, alleged that she was first raped in October of last year. After that, the accused was arrested. However, after being released on bail, he allegedly raped her again along with a friend on November 14 this year. The 18-year-old girl55 was missing from 23 November after she went outside to get her clothes. However, she did not return after which her family began searching for her.
