Eleven people were rescued from under five houses in Mumbai's Chembur which collapsed following a gas cylinder explosion on Wednesday, fire officials said. The violent blast ripped through the houses situated in a narrow lane.

The incident took place in Chembur’s Old Barrack area. The fire brigade rescued 11 people stranded on the first floor and a search operation is currently underway at the site.

Eleven people were rescued from the collapsed houses, the official said, adding that so far four persons have been admitted to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi.
