Girl Scouts San Diego helped kick off National Military Appreciation Month with the Operation Thin Mint Sendoff and Family Festival Saturday aboard the USS Midway Museum. More than 1,500 people were in attendance to help mark 23 years of Operation Thin Mint, a service project that started here in San Diego.

It was twenty years ago that then Girl Scout San Diego CEO Jo Dee Jacob started the Operation Thin Mint program. It has been two decades of sending “a taste of home and a note to show we care” from Girl Scout troops to deployed U.S. military troops. To date San Diegans have donated 3.25M+ packages of OTM cookies since 2002. The Girl Scouts are still trying to reach this years goal of sending 200,000 packages of OTM cookies to troops.
