The promise came two days after Rahul Gandhi pitched in Parliament for the census and reservation for OBCs in the women’s quota bill | Latest News India
The BJP government introduced four significant bills in the Monsoon session of Parliament, related to Jammu and Kashmir. One bill allows the Lt Governor to nominate three seats in the Assembly, while three others alter the reservation quota for SCs and STs. The bills have sparked political turmoil in the region, with various reactions from society. The political class is viewing the bills in the context of constitutional parameters, especially as the Supreme Court is about to hear petitions challenging Article 370's reading down and the reorganization of the state. The Gujjar and Pahari conflict has also escalated.
Face-off between the Raj Bhavan and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was averted as Governor BS Koshyari on Tuesday signed the bill passed by the Maharashtra Legislature to provide 27% political reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in local bodies which will be below 50% quota ceiling.
If the Supreme Court accepts the state government’s data, it will pave the way for the restoration of 27 per cent political reservation to the OBC community which was scrapped last year, citing it was above the 50 per cent quota ceiling.
