Israel declared war on Hamas on Oct. 8, 2023, the first time since the Yom Kippur War. The Palestinian Islamic Hamas movement’s surprise attack on Oct. 7, a Jewish holiday, launched rockets from the Gaza Strip and sent fighters across the border. Hamas said allies like Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah “will join the battle if Gaza is subjected to a war of annihilation.”

At a press conference, community leaders condemned violence in Israel and Gaza and called for balanced response by the U.S. and the media.

As the Israel Hamas war continues halfway across the world, the Islamic Society of Milwaukee rallied in solidarity with the Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Those who gathered see Israel as an occupying force that has long mistreated and subjugated the Palestinian people.

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee (ISM) is accepting donations to help relief efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey.
