NASA has logged another extraterrestrial first on its latest mission to Mars: converting carbon dioxide from the Martian atmosphere into pure, breathable oxygen, the U.S. space agency said on Wednesday.

Key Highlights The Cyanobacteria that were largely responsible for the creation of a breathable atmosphere on Earth 3.5 billion years ago could be deployed into creating human-friendly atmosphere on other planets.
A team of biologists and chemists has been investigating the ability of these cyanobacteria – also known as blue-green algae to photosynthesize in low-light conditions.
