Nearly four years after then-Interior Secretary David Bernhardt issued an order to allow eBikes to use the same trails in the National Park System that are open to muscle-powered mechanical bikes the National Park Service is taking a nationwide look at the impacts of those bikes as required under the National Environmental Policy Act.

Cyclists can now ride e-bikes around national parks, including the Mt. Vernon Trail along the GW Parkway, thanks to a recent policy change from the National

A federal judge decided that, at least for now, e-bike owners can still ride on national park trails previously reserved for human-powered travel.

Nobody seems to agree about electric mountain bikes: Are they bikes? Are they damaging? Do they belong on trails? Too late. Theyre already out there.

The agency, which unveiled a new policy on e-bike use, now allows riders of electric bicycles on 60,000 miles of trails.
